St Luke's Hospice is an established charity delivering compassionate care and services for all those approaching the end of their life in the London Boroughs of Harrow and Brent. With over 200 staff and 500 volunteers, the charity has an inpatient unit, provides a range of Home Care services with a specialist community team, offers a 24 hour support helpline, and has 18 retail outlets which supports broader fundraising activities. After a challenging CQC review in 2021, the organisation has successfully undergone a turnaround and they are now commencing a period of transformation to modernise for a prosperous future. 

The Role
The Head of Finance is a critical leadership position within the organisation which will support and work closely with the Director of Finance and manage the Finance team. The candidate will contribute to the achievement of Hospice goals by taking responsibility for the finance function and ensuring that financial goals are achieved by monitoring financial performance on a regular and timely basis and taking necessary action to ensure that all financial systems and processes operate effectively and according to best practice and within agreed limits of authority.

The Successful Candidate
  • Full or part-qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA, ACA, ICAEW, CIPFA, ICAS etc)
  • Hands-on experience producing the statutory accounts, management accounts, budgets and forecasts
  • Excellent attention to detail with experiencing delivery timely and accurate information to budget holders
  • Proactive individual who has experience of process improvement and achieving more efficiencies in reporting
  • Strong people manager who has the ability to change the culture of finance, empowering budget holders in commercial decision making. 
  • Empathy of the charity sector and some of the necessary regulatory and technical requirements.

What's on offer?
Basic salary of £55,000 - £58,000 pa plus a range of benefits including 3:6 employee/employer pension, life assurance (if opting into pension), employee assistance programme and a range of flexible discounts. The organisation is a family friendly workplace and is open to hybrid working discussions - there is free onsite parking when you are in the office. Whilst this is a full time post, we are open to applicants seeking a reduced working week (30 hours minimum).
