Associate Director Spotlight: Chloe Bailey

Meet Chloe, Associate Director of our Cambridge practice…

Chloe Bailey joined Mackie Myers 6 months ago to build our Cambridge practice. We recently caught up with her to find out more about her background, what she is all about and how the first 6 months have gone…

Tell us a bit about yourself?

I live in Saffron Walden which has been voted one of the best places to live in the UK – lovely but not good for house prices! I am married with a seven year old and nearly 6 year old twins. When I find the time I enjoy a good gym session, cooking, an Aperol spritz in the sun and moonlighting as a barmaid at the local pub. I started my career in estate agency and now have twelve years’ experience in finance recruitment within the Cambridgeshire and East Anglia market.

What made you want to work with Mackie Myers?

After a twelve year stint at a large corporate, I wanted to work within a smaller business environment where I felt I could be supported and given autonomy in equal measure. Mackie Myers is an exciting growth business on a fantastic journey and it was something I really wanted to be apart of. The leadership of the company is impressive and the idea of contributing towards building something meaningful both in Cambridge and beyond was extremely appealing.

Why Cambridge?

Cambridge is a fantastic and often underrated market. It is a great mix of quality established businesses combined with the highest amount of start-ups per capita in Europe. Focussing on the City itself, as well as the wider East Anglia region, there is a varied mix of exciting tech and biotech businesses along with an array of FMCG and manufacturing companies and an influential Not-For-Profit market. There is established competition in the market but there is room for a fresh approach that is much focussed on quality customer service and end to end advisory.

How would you describe your working style with customers?

I am friendly and personable whilst being consultative and direct. My main priority always is to get the job done for my contacts so I am extremely solutions focussed and bring a lot of historical market knowledge to help influence positive outcomes. The Mackie Myers Cambridge practice is set to be a female powerhouse - as working mums, we have the first hand of experience of the juggle and this puts us in a good position to support aspiring female leaders navigate the job market.

What advice do you have for clients looking to recruit in this market?

It is a challenging market where quality talent is highly sought after with multiple options on the table. Pace and urgency is the most important thing that can compete with this. Moving quickly shows commitment to recruit and to them. To help here, limit how many agencies you work with and take the time upfront to choose an effective recruitment partner that truly understands your needs which ensures you have the correct and consistent message going to market when you do press on. Finally, look beyond the CV as sometimes the best recruits do not necessarily look the best on paper but personality traits and talent potential assessed by your recruiter could make them a great hire.

Should you be looking to embark upon or continue your career in the Cambridge market, or be in search of a quality talent for your organisation, please reach out to Chloe to discuss further: hello@mackiemyers.co.uk
