The Project
Imperial College London enlisted Mackie Myers to quickly fill an interim change position. Like many universities, Imperial faced strict budget constraints and initially aimed to recruit the role on a fixed term contract, within a specific salary band. This approach posed a significant challenge, as the budget was well below market expectations.
The Process
It not uncommon for Universities to be faced with strict budget constraints within certain salary bandings so Mackie Myers were prepared to find a solution. Once the budget was agreed, Mackie Myers went about sourcing for candidates primarily via their own network. With over 10 years’ experience within the sector, Hattie Robertson mapped out candidates with the relevant change experience that worked within the desired budget. An advert was also put up on relevant job boards too attract additional candidate, possibly even outside of the sector, alongside a detailed LinkedIn Search. Over 50 candidates were spoken to and 5 candidates were shortlisted for the role, whereby 3 were invited to interview. One candidate stood out in particular who had a track record in change management and was appointed to start within a few weeks. The role was filled within a few weeks, taking into account the hiring mangers leave, this type of role can be turned around quicker if needs be.
The Result
After discussing the type of profile Imperial College London were requiring, it was agreed to offer the contract on a premium daily rate. The hiring manager, an interim professional herself with extensive recruitment experience, was open to seeking advice from Mackie Myers. By using examples of previous appointments in the sector and discussing available talent with HR, they agreed a more appropriate daily rate. They recruited a career interim, highly comfortable with change. Given the premium rate agreed up front, they have required very little support and made immediate impact.
