Megan Townend is our latest recruit to join Mackie Myers to launch our TMT division. We recently caught up with her to find out more about her background and what it is she brings to the market…
Tell us a bit about yourself?
I grew up in Chesterfield and moved to London 9 years ago after graduating from University. Like a lot of people I fell into recruitment and have been recruiting into the media sector ever since. Outside of work I am an avid walker, my walking shoe collection is quickly taking over in our home! I am big into my food and wine, so spend a lot of my weekends exploring the bars and restaurants of London. I live at home in North London with my husband and my two cats – Wedge and Lando!
What made you want to join Mackie Myers?
Having spend eight years at my previous business it felt like maybe it was time for a change. Having met with Jenna and Owen and researched the business, I really appreciate and respect the motivations of the company and echo a lot of them myself. It feels like it isn’t something Mackie Myers necessarily just says, it is reflected in the way the business operates.
Why the TMT sector?
Part of the reason I stayed in recruitment was because I loved recruiting into the media sector. I like being able to not only relate to the people that I am working with but also the sectors that I am recruiting in. The TMT sectors are often made up of exciting and innovative companies and therefore the people that work in them are often great. With all the developments across tech and AI it is also a really interesting time to be in the space.
How would you describe your working style with candidates and clients?
I would say that I adopt a very human approach to recruitment. Ultimately as a recruiter, you are working with people to find colleagues they are going to enjoy spending forty hours a week working with each other. Of course skillset is important but understanding the people that you are working with is of equal importance.
How have you spent your gardening leave?
Summer has fallen absolutely perfectly during my few weeks off. I went to visit my parents in the Champagne region for a few days and the rest so far has been spent walking and exploring London and some of the home counties!
