Assistant Management Accountant
Location: Colchester (2-3 days a week in the office)
Salary: 32,000-34,000 p.a. (+company benefits)
We are partnering with a well-established and growing business in Colchester that is looking to appoint an Assistant Management Accountant to join its finance team. This is an excellent opportunity for a part-qualified accountant or experienced Assistant Management Accountant looking to take the next step in their career within a supportive and collaborative environment.
Reporting into the Finance Manager, you will play a key role in the month-end process, management reporting, balance sheet reconciliations, and business partnering activities across the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare, post, reconcile, and analyse monthly management accounts.
- Perform timely and accurate balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring all accounts are fully supported and compliant with company policies and procedures.
- Assist with the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are consistently met.
- Reconcile direct profit and loss accounts and investigate any variances.
- Process and reconcile intercompany transactions.
- Review supplier invoice coding and ensure postings are accurate.
- Support the finance team with shared responsibilities, including management of central finance inboxes and other operational finance tasks.
- Produce financial analysis and reporting to support business decision-making.
- Respond to finance-related queries from stakeholders across the business.
- Identify trends, investigate variances, and provide insight into the story behind the numbers.
- Assist with process improvements and support ad hoc projects as required.
- Provide support and cover for other members of the finance team when needed.
About You
- Ideally studying towards ACCA or CIMA (or equivalent), although AAT Level 4 qualified candidates with relevant experience will also be considered.
- Previous experience in an Assistant Accoutant or Assistant, Assistant Management Accountant, or similar finance role.
- Strong understanding of month-end processes, journals, accruals, prepayments, and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Excellent attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
- Able to manage multiple priorities and consistently meet deadlines.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to build relationships across the business.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Experience with SAP or a similar ERP system would be advantageous.
