Due to continued growth within their In Vivo Pharmacology function, they are now seeking an Associate Principal Scientist to join their Nottingham-based team.

The Role
Reporting to the Associate Director of In Vivo Pharmacology, the Associate Principal Scientist will provide scientific leadership across complex client-sponsored drug discovery programmes.
This role is ideally suited to an experienced scientist with expertise in either Kidney Disease or Metabolic Disease who enjoys combining scientific excellence with project leadership, client interaction and strategic study design. Unlike traditional pharmaceutical environments focused on a single pipeline, this opportunity offers exposure to a broad portfolio of therapeutic programmes and cutting-edge research projects.

Main Duties
The successful candidate will play a key role in delivering high-quality in vivo pharmacology studies while providing scientific leadership across client programmes.
  • Lead the design, execution and interpretation of in vivo pharmacology studies.
  • Act as Project Lead across multiple client-sponsored drug discovery programmes.
  • Provide scientific leadership and technical expertise within kidney and/or metabolic disease research.
  • Design study strategies, protocols and experimental plans aligned to project objectives.
  • Interpret complex datasets and communicate findings to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary scientific teams and clients.
  • Support scientific innovation through the implementation of new models, technologies and methodologies.
  • Mentor and support junior scientists within the department.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and departmental capability development.
  • Ensure studies are delivered to high scientific, regulatory and ethical standards.
The Successful Candidate
  • PhD in a relevant Life Science discipline with industry or postdoctoral drug discovery experience, or BSc/MSc with significant industrial drug discovery experience.
  • Strong expertise in Kidney Disease or Metabolic Disease research.
  • Proven experience applying in vivo pharmacology models within a drug discovery environment.
  • Previous experience within a CRO, biotechnology or pharmaceutical organisation.
  • Strong understanding of study design, execution and data interpretation.
  • Excellent project management and organisational skills.
  • Confident communicator with experience engaging with clients and cross-functional teams.
  • Experience mentoring or supporting junior scientists would be advantageous.
  • Passion for translational science and advancing novel therapeutics.
