The Role
You will play a key role within the finance team, acting as a trusted specialist on statutory reporting, compliance, and financial controls. Working closely with the Deputy Head of Financial Accounts, you will ensure the organisation meets its regulatory obligations, maintains high?quality financial governance, and delivers accurate, timely financial information to internal and external stakeholders.
This role sits at the heart of financial operations, overseeing critical processes such as VAT, payroll accounting, balance sheet integrity, and statutory submissions.
Key Responsibilities - Lead on quarterly VAT returns for the organisation and its subsidiaries
- Complete CIS submissions for subsidiary entities
- Provide VAT compliance advice to colleagues and review invoices for correct VAT treatment
- Prepare P11Ds and support other payroll?related reporting
- Assist in the preparation of annual corporation tax returns
- Manage monthly payroll accounting entries
- Lead capital expenditure reporting and associated reconciliations
- Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations, including prepayments, deferred income, and intercompany accounts
- Contribute to year?end processes, including notes to the accounts and audit liaison
- Review and update accounting policies to ensure compliance with regulatory standards
- Deputise for the Deputy Head of Financial Accounts during busy periods or absence
- Undertake ad?hoc duties related to financial management and operational improvement
The Successful Candidate - Fully qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, or ACA)
- Strong technical knowledge, including FRS102, VAT, and statutory reporting
- Experience within the higher education, charity, or not?for?profit sector is highly desirable
- Excellent Excel skills and strong overall systems capability
- Proactive, solutions?focused, and comfortable operating in a complex environment
