We are partnered with a large, nationally recognised cultural and charitable organisation to recruit a Finance Manager: Accounts & Strategy on a 12-month fixed-term contract.

The Role

Reporting to the Head of Finance and working closely with the Interim Finance Director, the Finance Manager: Accounts & Strategy will lead a well-established Management Accounts function within a complex and multi-faceted organisation.

Managing a team of ten finance professionals, including four direct reports, you will oversee management accounting, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, statutory accounting, audit coordination, and strategic financial planning activities.

This role combines strong technical accounting responsibilities with commercial and strategic influence. You will take ownership of year-end reporting, consolidated accounts, and audit delivery, whilst providing high-quality financial insight to support decision making across the organisation.

The successful candidate will play a key role in driving continuous improvement, developing financial reporting and planning processes, and ensuring the finance team continues to provide an excellent service to internal and external stakeholders.

Main Duties

  • Lead and develop the Management Accounts team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing culture
  • Manage the annual budgeting process and oversee quarterly forecasting and reforecasting activities
  • Lead the preparation of management accounts and board reporting, providing insightful analysis to support decision making
  • Take ownership of the year-end process, including preparation of consolidated accounts and statutory reporting requirements
  • Act as the primary contact for external auditors, ensuring all audit deliverables are completed within strict deadlines
  • Provide technical accounting expertise across the organisation, advising on accounting standards, compliance and financial governance matters
  • Develop strong relationships with external stakeholders, regulators and funding bodies
  • Drive improvements across finance systems, controls, reporting processes and ways of working
  • Support major strategic and transformation projects by providing financial analysis and commercial insight
  • Partner with senior leaders across the organisation, ensuring finance is embedded within long-term planning and operational decision making
The Successful Candidate

  • Qualified accountant with ACA or equivalent professional qualification
  • Strong technical accounting expertise, including statutory accounts preparation, audit management and consolidated reporting
  • Experience leading accounting or management accounting teams within large or complex organisations
  • Strong knowledge of financial controls, governance and regulatory compliance
  • Track record of leading budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes
  • Experience managing and developing finance professionals within a high-performing team environment
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence and challenge senior decision makers
  • Experience improving finance processes and implementing best practice controls
  • Knowledge of charity accounting, SORP reporting, restricted and unrestricted funds would be advantageous
  • Experience within the charity, public sector, cultural, education or wider not-for-profit sectors would be beneficial but is not essential
