Summary 

We are partnering with a leading London-based university to recruit an Interim Financial Accountant for a 12-month fixed-term contract. This is a pivotal role within the Finance team, supporting the production of annual financial statements and driving key compliance and reporting processes.

The Role

• Lead on year-end financial statements: Take ownership of the full process, from planning to completion.
• Manage audit cycle and work closely with external auditors.
• Balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and integrity of postings across the general ledger.
• Tax compliance: overseeing quarterly VAT returns and provide tax advice across the university.
• Payroll oversight: Maintain persistence and accuracy in payroll processes.
• Contribute to a major project introducing a new Statement of Recommended Practice and restructuring the general ledgers.
• Governance collaboration: work with internal stakeholders on financial governance and reporting.

The Successful Candidate 

• Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) or equivalent experience.
• Strong technical skills with a focus on financial statements and compliance.
• Comfortable working in a complex environment with grants, endowments, and charity SORP.
• Excellent attention to detail and proactive communication skills.
