Summary
  • An opportunity for an experienced Interim Financial Controller to join a leading London Health charity.
  • This role will suit a technically strong qualified accountant with charity sector experience, including SORP accounting, restricted funds management, VAT, audit and year-end reporting.
Our Client
Our client is a well-established charitable organisation with a significant financial portfolio and a complex funding structure. As they prepare for year-end and statutory reporting requirements, they are seeking an experienced interim professional who can quickly add value, strengthen financial controls, and support the finance function through a busy reporting cycle.

The Role

This is a hands-on Financial Controller position requiring a confident and technically capable accountant who can operate independently with minimal handover. Working closely with the CFO, you will lead the financial control function, oversee the year-end process, and ensure compliance with charity accounting and regulatory requirements.
  • Lead the preparation of SORP-compliant statutory accounts and support the completion of the year-end reporting cycle.
  • Manage the annual audit process and act as the key contact for external auditors.
  • Oversee VAT compliance, Gift Aid claims, and wider charity regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Monitor and manage over 350 restricted funds, ensuring compliance and accurate financial reporting.
  • Review and strengthen financial controls, reconciliations, and finance processes across the organisation.
  • Support and oversee three Finance Officers/Senior Finance Officers, providing guidance and review rather than hands-on people management.
  • Work closely with the CFO on finance improvement initiatives and key operational projects.

The Successful Candidate
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA or equivalent).
  • Proven experience within the charity sector, including preparation of SORP-compliant accounts.
  • Strong knowledge of restricted funds accounting and experience managing complex funding structures.
  • Experienced in year-end accounting, statutory reporting, audit management, and financial controls.
  • Solid understanding of charity VAT and wider HMRC compliance requirements.
  • Previous interim experience with the ability to hit the ground running and work effectively with limited handover.
  • Experience supervising finance staff would be beneficial but is not essential.
  • A proactive, detail-oriented professional who can balance technical excellence with continuous improvement.
What’s on offer?
  • Competitive day rate or FTC.
  • 6-month contract starting ASAP.
  • Opportunity to work closely with an experienced CFO within a respected charitable organisation.
  • High-profile role with ownership of year-end, audit, VAT, and statutory reporting activities.
  • Exposure to a complex charity environment with significant restricted fund reporting requirements.
  • A collaborative culture where technical expertise and initiative are highly valued.
