Management Accountant

Our Client

Mackie Myers have partnered with a well established, not for profit higher education institution, to appoint a Management Accountant into their close knit and collaborative finance team.

The Role

The Management Accountant will play a key role in delivering high-quality management information, supporting strategic decision-making, and driving financial performance across the organisation.

Working closely with senior leadership, including the Deputy Vice Chancellor and Head of Finance, this role blends strong technical accounting with stakeholder engagement and finance business partnering responsibilities. The post-holder will also contribute to budgeting, forecasting, and systems improvement, helping shape the future finance function. 

Main Duties
  • Produce timely and accurate monthly management accounts and reporting
  • Deliver detailed variance analysis and financial insights to support decision-making
  • Lead on budgeting, forecasting, and multi-year financial planning processes
  • Own and maintain cashflow forecasting, highlighting risks and opportunities
  • Partner with stakeholders across the University to provide financial advice and challenge
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives across finance processes and controls
  • Contribute to the implementation of new finance systems and reporting tools
  • Provide financial input into strategic projects and operational initiatives
  • Deputise for senior finance colleagues where required
The Successful Candidate
  • Part-qualified or qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent)
  • Strong management accounting experience within a complex or regulated environment (higher education or not for profit desirable)
  • Proven ability to produce insightful financial reporting and analysis
  • Confident communicator with experience engaging non-finance stakeholders
  • Excellent Excel and data manipulation skills
  • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and adding value
  • Ability to work independently while building strong relationships across teams
