Managing Director – Advanced Engineering & Clean Technology
Our Client
We are partnering with an ambitious, early-stage
engineering and clean technology business to appoint a Managing Director who will lead the organisation through its next phase of growth and industrialisation.
Operating within a rapidly developing market, the business has developed a portfolio of innovative engineered solutions designed to support the transition towards cleaner, lower-carbon industrial operations.
This is a broad Managing Director mandate with full responsibility for
strategy, P&L, commercial growth, engineering, manufacturing, supply chain and operational delivery. The successful individual will take an emerging technology business and build the commercial and operational platform required to scale.
The Role
The Managing Director will have overall responsibility for the performance and development of the business.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Define and deliver the long-term business strategy and growth plan.
- Take full ownership of the P&L, including revenue, margin, cash, working capital and investment priorities.
- Lead the transition from product development and early customer adoption into repeatable, scalable manufacturing and commercial delivery.
- Develop the product and technology roadmap in line with customer and market requirements.
- Build and lead a high-performing multidisciplinary team across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, commercial, quality, service and finance.
- Develop a scalable go-to-market strategy, converting early customer engagement into repeatable revenue and long-term partnerships.
- Lead strategic customer relationships, major bids, commercial negotiations and partnerships.
- Establish robust manufacturing, quality and supply-chain processes to support increased production volumes.
- Oversee the full customer journey from initial requirements through build, deployment, commissioning and ongoing support.
- Maintain the highest standards of safety, quality, compliance and operational governance.
- Build the organisational capability, processes and culture required to support significant future growth.
The Successful Candidate
We are looking for an established
Managing Director, General Manager, Business Unit Director or senior operational/commercial leader with experience leading an engineered-product business through growth and scale.
You are likely to bring:
- Significant senior leadership experience within advanced engineering, industrial equipment, energy, automotive, off-highway, aerospace, defence or another safety-critical manufacturing environment.
- Full P&L ownership and strong commercial and financial acumen.
- Experience taking technically complex products from development through industrialisation and into scaled manufacture.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing, engineering, quality and supply chain.
- A demonstrable track record of commercial growth, customer development and contract negotiation.
- Experience building teams, processes and operating models within a growing organisation.
- Strong customer and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience operating within a highly regulated or safety-critical environment.
- The ability to combine strategic leadership with a hands-on, entrepreneurial approach.
Experience within
clean technology, alternative fuels, energy infrastructure, pressure systems, mobile equipment or related technologies would be advantageous.
This is an opportunity to take genuine ownership of an innovative engineering business at a pivotal point in its development.
The successful individual will have the autonomy to shape the strategy, build the organisation and create the operational and commercial platform required to take the business from its current stage into a
scaled, manufacturing-led organisation with significant growth ambitions.
The position would suit an MD/GM who enjoys combining
technology, manufacturing and commercial leadership and wants the opportunity to make a tangible impact within a growing business.
