The Project
Across the past 12 months Mackie Myers have partnered with a rapidly growing consultancy business who are at the forefront of driving sustainability in the construction industry. Having grown to £25mil turnover and almost 200 staff, they were now looking to build a finance function fit for purpose. Looking for a dynamic Finance Director, a Finance Business Partner and a Management Accountant, Mackie Myers were assigned to recruit all three roles.
The Process
Initial conversations took place with the founders of the consultancy company around the Finance Director vacancy. Given the urgency around the need it was decided that an interim recruit was the quickest route to success. Through these conversations Mackie Myers were able to understand more about the complexities of the business, the longer term strategy of the company and therefore obtain a clear understanding of the type of Finance Director they would require to add value to the business quickly. At this point Mackie Myers were able to use a number of different methodologies, including utilising their own network of interim Finance Directors and headhunting, to provide a shortlist and successfully appoint within two weeks. Once the interim Finance Director was embedded in to the business, they set out to start the process for the next pieces in the puzzle: the Finance Business Partner, followed by the Management Accountant.
The Result
The interim Finance Director was offered a permanent contract before the end of his interim assignment, of which he accepted. Both the Finance Business Partner and Management Accountant roles were appointed within less that four weeks from taking the job brief through to contracts being signed. Benefits to the consultancy firm include, better management information and better decision making as well as better processes ensuring they are profitable on every single one of their projects. Now with an established relationship between the consultancy company and Mackie Myers, we now have formal terms signed with the business to support across finance and operations.
