April 2026 marks five years since the inception of Mackie Myers. What began as a founder led start up with two laptops and a porous business plan has evolved into a recruitment platform operating across multiple sectors and geographies with strengthening market credibility and an exceptional group of people. This milestone has provided an opportunity to reflect on what we have built, acknowledge those that have been part of the journey so far, and look to the future.
From Startup to Scaleup
When Mackie Myers was founded, the ambition was to build a modern, forward thinking and authentic recruitment business that puts people at the heart of everything. Strategically, we wanted to specialise and hedge across multiple connected markets to enable the business to thrive across multiple economic cycles.
Over the past five years, the business has traded through sustained uncertainty including the post-pandemic boom and correction, ongoing geopolitical disruption, and the cost of living crisis. These conditions have tested every part of our model, but they have sharpened our focus on what matters most – people, authenticity and delivery.
Whilst we have certainly not got everything right and had a fair share of learns along the way, we are proud to have built a business with repeat client partnerships that extend across multiple years. This has enabled us to continue to invest in our platform and value proposition – quality recruitment delivery aligned to sector expertise, underpinned by strong systems and an invested, high performing team.

The progress we have made would not be possible without our team. We are equally grateful to our partners and suppliers who support us across finance, systems, marketing, operations and more. Our continued investment in a range of operational partners has enabled us to scale with confidence, rigour and professionalism, allowing us to focus on what we do best.

Over the past year, Mackie Myers was proud to achieve B Corp certification, to be recognised as a Sunday Times Best Places to Work, and to be named APSCo Best Recruitment Company. While recognition is never the objective in itself, these milestones are important markers of progress and validation of our approach in growing responsibly, treating people well, and holding ourselves to high standards.
The Next Five Years
As we look ahead, our focus is clear. Over the next five years, we will concentrate on building depth across the platform we have worked so hard to establish, embedding stronger capability, greater specialism and deeper partnerships, rather than pursuing growth for its own sake.
Central to this strategy is a sharper focus on the core sector verticals where we already deliver meaningful impact and maintain strong credibility across our UK and US platform. Within our ‘Commerce & Industry’ offering, we are leaning further into Consumer, Cleantech, Life Science and Private Equity markets where we see long-term demand, as our ‘Not-For-Profit’ offering will continue to build national specialisation across Charity, Higher Education and Social Housing markets.
Whilst we major in Finance recruitment, we believe that true value add comes from sector expertise, enabling us to act as genuine advisors, connectors and influencers rather than transactional recruiters. Accordingly, we will also continue to invest in and expand our Executive offering, supporting cross functional senior and board level appointments. As demand for high impact senior hires continues to grow in an increasingly complex world, our grounded ‘no fuss, delivery first’ approach to executive search continues to set us apart from the traditional market.
As we achieve these aims, we are excited about the talent within our business. By combining ambition and drive with innovation, grit and humility, we know that Mackie Myers has a high ceiling, and some amazing people coming through to help us get to the next level.
